The Coming Developer Wars

John Musser, August 1st, 2006

APIsLast week Robert Scoble wrote a good post on the coming G/Y/M/A/e developer wars. Inspired by a conversation he had with Windows Live Local development lead Chandu Thota, he lists a few basics that today’s mashup developers need: “1) They need a freaking fast distribution platform. 2) They need a shitload of storage space. Yes, that’s a technical term :-) 3) They need an API. 4) It needs to be cheap.” He then gives a good, quick overview of his take on how Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, Amazon and eBay currently fare and gives the nod to Google for being in the lead, mostly on the basis of their lead in developer mindshare. Certainly their big slice of the mashup pie here would support that view.
