Via Virtual Earth Contest

John Musser, November 11th, 2005

MapStatsMicrosoft’s Virtual Earth (VE) team has selected the MapStats application as the $1000 winner in their Via Virtual Earth Competition. The app uses Virtual Earth to visualize the visitor traffic of a given website. The red squares indicate where visitors came from. The less opaque they are, the less visitors came from that location. From what it says on their site it looks like they’re in the process of turning this into a commercial venture.

Speaking of Virtual Earth, there’s been a variety of interesting new VE entries added here recently which you can see listed under /api/VirtualEarth. More on those shortly.

And lastly, keep in mind that you still have until the end of the year to submit entries into 2 other programming contents using Microsoft and Amazon web APIs.
