Google Talk

Google Talk Logo Google Talk is all the buzz today. Using the non-proprietary Jabber/XMPP as the protocol is a nice disruptive Google-style entry into the space.

Couple of points: clean interface, currently no advertising or popups, requires GMail account.

While it’s very cool that they went w/Jabber/XMPP, they did not enable the server-to-server features. For now, it just appears as another proprietary implementation of an open protocol. Hope they open this up to connecting w/other Jabber servers.
